Well, the first thing is that you are not paying the UK departure tax for a premium cabin as you are only in transit.

Secondly, BA, as all businesses, have to position themselves competitively against other airlines. So, to complete with AF/KLM, LH etc... They price accordingly to try and persuade people to book with BA instead of their home
airlines.
