If you can charge airline tickets, apply for the premier rewards gold card. You get 3x MR points for airline tickets. Then wait for a 50% transfer bonus to DL. If you need 50K DL miles, you can charge about $11K in airline tickets, get 33K MR points, then 50% bonus to DL when offered and have your 50K DL miles.
Credit score takes a slight hit in the short-term with each credit card application but it goes up in the long-term since your utilization ratio (amount of your outstanding balance compared to your credit card limit) is lower.
