It's not actually east or west of anywhere, just distances. So LHR-ATL is 50,000 miles rather than 40,000 simply because it is over 4000 miles (4,200 in this case). It's never a pleasant situation to be 'just the wrong side' of any threshold, but unfortunately, there has to be one, and wherever you put it, someone will feel that they have just missed out.
