Wow - that is a new one. On the Wednesday evening JAX-DFW flight, the plane was probably 50% full. Once they shut the front door, the cabin crew actually encouraged people to move around if they wanted.

I find it a bit amazing that the FA even cared, let alone knew the cost of the "preferred" seat.
