With that being said, we went through the SP line at MSP and went straight to an agent. No questions asked she took both of our bags and golf clubs (2 items total, each). Priority tags and all for all 4 bags. I would give DL a call though just to make sure and save your self some potential trouble at check in.
I had the exact opposite experience earlier in October. On a flight with two family members (LIT to JFK via ATL) and a flight back the check-in agents insisted that my family members had to pay because they were on separate PRN.
I had anticipated the problem and tweeted @DeltaAssist on the way to the airport. @DeltaAssist said their bags fly free if they checkin at the same time as me.
At check-in, the agent would budge until I pulled out the iPhone and showed them the message from @DeltaAssist. They both went to supervisors and eventually checked the bags through without charging.
Delta really needs to be more transparent about this and train the agents on how to handle it.
And in a first for me, I got a phone call at the gate from the LIT check-in agent. She called the gate just before boarding, got me on the desk phone and apologized for the confusion, saying she was embarrassed for not knowing the rules. That more than made up for the hassle at check-in.
