Is there any way to avoid the multi-city tool?

I'm having issues with NZ's interactive multi-city tool, when trying to book A class flights from the US to Australia with stops in NZ. It's throwing up a number of problems for me:
1) It frequently just freezes
2) If I have more than one stop in any given direction, it can definitely not cope -it goes into an endless error loop demanding that I specify specific times for each flight, which I do, and then it repeats the error
3) It randomly won't display various flight options that are within the rules. E.g. it won't show anything other than nonstop flights between CHC or WLG and SYD. And, worse, for any destination other than AKL/WLG/CHC it arbitrarily decides only to show me SFO-AKL outbound flights despite LAX-AKL having 7 A class seats... even if my journey *originates* in LAX.

It's driving me crazy!! I don't suppose the old, low tech booking engine is still lurking anywhere is it?
