Everyone in the world is different. People stand in line early for a variety of reasons.

You ask "why" with two question marks and capitalized letters!
Some people like to stand before a long flight. Others want to be sure they find bin space for their carry on. Still, others may not find an empty seat near the gate.
I am puzzled why you find such an innocent thing so humorous and troublesome.
