In such a scenario where BA switched its Orlando flight to LHR from LGW and I were travelling BA from BRU to MCO, arriving T5 (from BRU), departing T3 for MCO and my baggage was ticketed to final destination MCO, what would happen if I exited T5 via and took Heathrow Express to T3 and checked in there?
Would it be a problem or not?
It isn't hypothetical. BA already operates some flights out of T3, so there are many passengers who transfer T5-T3 and vice versa on BA.
I'd generally prefer to do this airside except perhaps if going the other way (T3 to T5) and arriving into T3 during the morning rush with all the people arriving off transatlantic flights and connecting to other flights in T5. In that case the T5 security check is a real bottleneck. In such a case it'd probably be quicker to exit landside.
