Never had an issue - particularly since I use IRIS at immigration. Bags will be checked through, also between terminals

Edit: Actually I had issues two or three times. Sometimes they will send me back to BA's "Passport Check" Desk prior to letting me through security - who will then ask me "Why did you come landside?" Not a big problem - just allow 40 Minutes instead of 35...
When travelling from the ME to AMS on business I used to always go through passport control to the T4 arrivals lounge to get breakfast and then go back through passport control an hour or so before the AMS flight. Never had any problems.
