Looking Out The Window

It's one of the first steps in our pre-flt setup. Most crews know if the switch is on or not.
Asking probably won't help.

Personally, I don't turn it on.
And I specifically tell the f/a's to NOT say that it's broken, because that would be a lie.
It's switched off, intentionally. I think I explained why, somewhere else, maybe earlier in this thread.
So, asking wouldn't change my mind.

That being said, folks are always welcome in my cockpit, to come up and say hi.
When people stick their head in I invite them in, offer the jump seat to them if they want to sit and chat.
Kids always get my seat and a photo op if their parents want it.
I hand out maps and flt plans too if they want souvenirs.

If we were allowed, I'd invite you up in flight.
However, the Feds would have something to say about that.
It's too bad too. The view really is better.
There are spectacular sights to be seen from our vantage point.
When riding in the back I'm always amazed that some people NEVER look out the window.
Their loss.
I'm amazed at this as well. Many folks pull the shade down and never look out the window at this beautiful planet we live on.

Awhile back, I flew roundtrip in F IAH-POS on CO. There's lots to see outside on this route: islands, reefs, and usually the coast of Venezuela on the way home (I believe the specific routing can depend on weather en route and/or winds aloft - and please correct me if I'm in error here). However, on the way back from POS, I was the only one in the F cabin to have my window shade open (and only by half in deference to those folks who wanted to watch the stupid, idiotic movie).

Same type of deal with flights over the Sierras of California and over southern Utah and Colorado as well. Absolutely stunning scenery out there in the great American West with many other examples to be seen....
