However, it doesn't make much sense to me for the airline to make it available on CO aircraft when an apparently considerable number of UA pilots currently keep it turned off. I also wonder if the CO pilots will even turn it on to begin with if it does become available.
Good buddy of mine who is UA 757/767 Capt. still makes sure Ch.9 is on because he knows many passengers like it (he frequently flies LAX-HNL/OGG/KOA/LIH and also the LAX-JFK p.s. service). But it appears he may be one of a dwindling number of pilots to do so.
Which is why I have a feeling CO management will (and should) make it a policy that Ch9 is on ALL the time unless there is a quantifiable operational reason why it should be turned off (and security nonsense is not such a reason).
