Besides the obvious frequent travelers on high-dollar fares, perhaps they looked at the following:
-Frequently buying full J fares on three-class planes ("hey, why not step up to F, only a few bucks more)
-Frequently flying F on partner airlines and crediting miles to AAdvantage account ("guess what, we now offer more comparable perks")
-Used to fly int'l F relatively frequently but business has tapered off recently ("c'mon back, we've got new stuff to show you")
-Answered a survey once about travel and lack of PJs in F seemed to top the list of complaints/was most important ("guess what, we listened!!")
