I got that very book years ago when I first started traveling internationally, and it's been INVALUABLE. I follow most of their recommendations:

1. Keep to your normal schedule and get plenty of rest before departure.
2. Reset your watch (iPod, etc) as soon as you are on the plane and start thinking in terms of destination time.
3. Upon arrival, be hyper-aware of the factors that tell you what time it is locally: Clock time, social and environmental cues, and sunlight.
4. Try to ignore your own body clock. Don't remind yourself what time it is back home.
5. Drink lots of water; avoid alcohol.

Recommendations I skip:
1. I don't need the pre-departure anti-jetlag diet, as I naturally have an easy time with jetlag.
2. I never drink anything with caffeine. Usually I don't care, but Scanlon and Ehert's research indicate that caffeine is a powerful agent in resetting one's circadian clock. I make do with a glass or two of orange juice in the destination time morning, since that's what I have when I wake up at home every morning. (I actually envy the coffee drinkers on the plane.)

It's really important to know that different people have a different ability to reset their inborn circadian clock. I have a friend who is a veteran international traveler, but she truly needs one day per time zone. I don't even notice jet lag when flying between the US East and West Coasts. When I go to Europe, I'm OK once I get a good night's sleep.

My personal belief is that I am very sunlight-oriented. Since babyhood, I've never been able to sleep during the day. I never take daytime naps. If the sun is up, my eyes are glued open. I use weird quirk that when I arrive at the destination. I consciously look at the position of the sun in the sky and adjust my desire to sleep or stay awake accordingly.
