Should BA offer a reduced fuel surcharge if we fly on more efficient planes?
Right, this is my first attempt at starting a thread so I'm bracing myself for the onslaught...be gentle...
With BA lauding the use of more fuel efficient planes, and with more progress to be made in the future with the Dreamliner etc., is there an argument that the fuel surcharges should actually be reduced?
I realise that oil costs fluctuate but this efficiency saving is never factored into the justification for increased surcharges.
Furthermore, would it make a difference to our ticket choices if we were given the ability to save money and fly on a more efficient plane? For example, there are those of us who prefer CW 747 to CW 777 but if the fuel surcharges were reduced for the latter (>20% more fuel efficient), would it change our preferences? And would this not be empowering the customer to be able to choose to reduce our carbon footprints?
There, fuse lit, now time to stand back.
