Some more info...Westin Villas are really nice if you like a big studio and more of a suburban feel but it is a huge property. I didn't feel like I was on vacation, more like living in a different place. All the properties mentioned are a minimum 50 minute drive from Kahului airport, if you can fly into Kapalua, you are 10 minutes from the resorts.
There is not much to do on that side of the Island, Whalers village is so-so, downtown Maui is quaint but again not much going on. Choose carefully since you'll be coming from HNL, there is a huge difference between them.
