My name my topic....

Ski/Snowboard bags are there to protect your hard board from the nasty world without snow out there, like bulky luggage counters, cargo compartments, baggage trolleys, conveyer belts, dark corners of airport operation and all that nasty stuff that can go wrong.

Make sure you have a good ski/snowboard bag and do not just put the snowboard in it by itself. Fill it up with your ski trousers, pullovers etc to have a proper stable bag with used volume. My snowboard bag is red (to be seen and not forgotten) and has a 2-3cm thick layer + I always fill it up with additional clothes. Also do not forget to add your contact details to the bag. I prefer not to add my full address on the baggage tag, as that will then indicate that I am not at home...weird things happen.

Lufthansa will transport one ski/snowboard for free (even without M&M status like FTL, SEN, HON) independent of your travel class, that’s what we can find on through the link provided by Lack:

One ski equipment = One pair of skis or water skis or one snowboard + 1 pair of ski sticks + 1 pair of ski boots + 1 ski helmet

Once when I flew C from FRA-ZRH-LCY I had the 30 kg for checked in luggage (my Samsonite), my snowboard bag of 20 kg (snowboard + boots + volume) + hand luggage (le creuset set box + trolley) and was pretty happy when everything arrived safely.
