I have a few trips coming up in the next couple of months that add up to about the 40,000 EQM (with special offers)/60,000 RDM that I would need to get to Executive Platinum status from Platinum.

I also have about 200,000 miles that I could use to take these trips.

Cost of the trips is about $2500, about $.04 per RDM. I'll probably be flying a lot next year, and the idea of domestic upgrades + SWUs is tempting. I've never been Executive Platinum before, so that sounds enticing.

I'm paying for the tickets myself. $2500 is a lot, but I do need to make the trips anyway. It's just a question of miles now or later.

Then again, American Airlines might go bankrupt and I'd have wasted the money and lost the miles.

What do you think I should do?
