Slightly off-topic: AA domestic upgrade and tier points

Went to DCA this morning to catch my flight to SJU via MIA (lovely airport with great views, free wi-fi, Samsung charging stations etc).
When I got off the Metro, I went to a self-check-in terminal and was offered an upgrade from Y to first on the DCA-MIA segment only for $100. Didn't bother as it was only a 2.5 hour flight but thinking about it now, would I have got an extra 50 tier points for the paid £70 upgrade?

Anyway, got my window seat, middle seat free (unlike the MIA-SJU flight that was exactly the same aircraft at the same gate and went tech for a few minutes as soon as first class boarded / got kicked off, and which was full with about 2 people having English as a first language)
