Exactly! I was talking about applying for a HRP right now. Those who had already obtained one previously doesn't have to worry about what kind of passport he/she has or doesn't have.

I will be going to HK next month, then taking a bus to Guangzhou. So I'll be using my HRP when entering China. From what I understand, the HRP is mainly for border crossing on land (between HK/Macau and China). But I'll be leaving China via the Guangzhou airport, taking an international flight to Singapore. Will I run into any problems using my HRP at the departure immigration? I'll definitely have my US passport on me, since I need to show a passport at the airline check-in counter.

I spent a long time researching this, but the closest answer I got was from this: http://hongkong.geoexpat.com/forum/24/thread180641.html

Thanks in advance!
There's no difference whether you enter/leave by land, air, or sea. You can use your HRP through all borders. If you enter China with a HRP, you absolutely should be leaving China with one.
