Can I use my HRP for "leaving" China at an airport?

Hi everyone,

I was born in HK, grew up in the US, and now I have a HK ID, US passport, and even the Home Return Permit (HRP). I've used the HRP several times to enter China from Macau. Really fast and simple. I also enjoy the speediness of using my HK ID and the biometric scanner when entering and leaving HK. If I enter HK with my US passport, I get the stamp and the protection of the US embassy, but the foreigner lines at HKG are craaaazy long! (To the OP: Yes, you must use leave HK using your HK ID, because that's what you used coming into HK. If you used your US passport, it wouldn't work, because you don't have the entry stamp nor the arrival card, so the officer will wonder when and how you entered HK in the first place.)

My question, however, is this:
Has anyone ever used their HRP when "leaving" China from an airport?
I will be going to HK next month, then taking a bus to Guangzhou. So I'll be using my HRP when entering China. From what I understand, the HRP is mainly for border crossing on land (between HK/Macau and China). But I'll be leaving China via the Guangzhou airport, taking an international flight to Singapore. Will I run into any problems using my HRP at the departure immigration? I'll definitely have my US passport on me, since I need to show a passport at the airline check-in counter.

I spent a long time researching this, but the closest answer I got was from this: http://hongkong.geoexpat.com/forum/24/thread180641.html

Thanks in advance!
