I did a SIN-NRT-SIN [997/998] award for 50K Aeroplan miles in First in October -- believe same award goes for 40K in UA Mileage Plus miles -- and it offered full First Class service, albeit a modified lighter meal on the overnight outbound which departed around 10:30p. We got sleeper suits, amenity kits [new style men's Bulgari], choice of Japanese style slippers or normal sockettes. Duvet and full breakfast.

That's slightly more than a NAmerican F or J award on either carrier, so great deal. No problem getting award seats a few weeks out either.

I opted to the noon flight back to SIN and even on it we were offered sleeper suits and amenity kits.

To me, this represented an excellent way of sampling SQ in First Class. The flight time is just over 6-1/2 hours each direction, about the same length of time to fly from NYC to AMS, an award which generally goes for twice as much in either program. You get into NRT quite early, in fact immigration workers were just coming on duty as well came into the hall. NRT was not crowded at all, so made orientation quite easy.
