Also it is one of those companies that insist you enter your account number and then often the first question I get is what is your account number?
It is nice to get a few miles off rewards and save some on award fees plus a few other things, such as 10K in equity miles for the $25K spend but the phone system doesn't win any good awards.
This raises a red flag for me ... a month or so back I was suddenly besieged with calls and e-mails from Barclays about a questionable charge they had "detected" on my card.
Well, they were right -- it was questionable and I had not made it. But it was for all of $7 from some internet company, and when I called to talk to Barclays about it, everyone seemed to be more stoked about selling me various forms of credit card insurance and theft protection what-not than explaining to me how in the world they could have spotted such an innocuous looking charge that I might never have noticed myself.
I had wondered if I were being scammed -- by Barclays and not by this internet company (since for the life of me I could not figure out how someone had my card number and why, if they had it, they were going for this small amount; and how my good friends at Barclays had been able to detect this and save me so rapidly) -- and had been thinking of posting here to see if this sort of thing was happening to others.
But I didn't. And now I am. Anyone else?
