The most remote Starwood in Maui is the Westin Ka'anapali Ocean Resort Villas (WKORV) as it's north of "resort row." The studios are plenty of room for a single/couple, plus they have a mini kitchen and washer/dryer. However, it's the largest in terms of number of rooms. (Sheraton is the smallest, and most sprawling.)

The other two resorts, The Sheraton and the Westin are both on resort row aka Ka'anapali Beach, so the crowds will be thicker there. The Sheraton is more secluded than the Westin by virtue of being the last on the ocean front path runs the entire length of the beach, from the Hyatt to the Sheraton.

All are ocean front. Snorkeling is best at Black Rock, followed by WKORV. The beaches are sandy, but they're not as nice and flat as Waikiki, which is a sunbathers' paradise. Because of the pitch of the beach, most people sunbathe around the pool vs on the beach.

If you pick WKORV, ask for the north side, which draws fewer families (because it doesn't have a pool with a slide) and also because the studios there have a lanai v the south side which only has juliet balconies off their studios.
