All the hotels are run down and extremely over priced. The resort has undergone ownership change and the staff are leaving by the droves. The staff have been informed that there is now an affirmative action quota to hire Aboriginal Staff and their current jobs are not guaranteed. So they are just resigning and moving on.
This weekend I witnessed so much rudeness that even the Japanese Tourists seemed offended. The frontline staff at the Outback Hotel were insane!
- The cashier at the bbq pit area insisted that the customer pay for two people even though his wife did not want to eat the crappy buffet (I believe she was going to buy a meal from the take away meal).
- The big burly uniformed security guards are walking up and down the aisles ensuring people follow whatever law they are looking for violators for.
- Just a general "I am not at your call! attitude"
The hotel rooms are sparce and old although the bathrooms have been updated. The blankets have holes in them, the TV's are from 1990 era but you cant get a room for under $220 a night. Check out is 10AM and if you are not out, they will charge you for another day.
I spoke with a staff member and she mentioned that they are charged for their work accomodation, get paid minimum wage and now they have to pay to even the use the employee swimming pool. People there feel like they are being milked as most of their pay goes right back to the resort for living expenses (Resort Serfdom!).
I recommend the camp ground and use your own vehicle. Anything else is an invitation to be shafted at the Resort. It is a disgrace that this monopoly has been allowed.
I hope the Qantas closure will make management at this resort think twice about their pricing, staffing and service practices. As they will have lots of time on their hands with few guests.
