Not sure how long you're staying in HKG, but I usually get the AEX roundtrip with 3-day unlimited MTR use visitor card. I think it's normally HKD 300, but you can buy the voucher onboard CX for HKD 290, then you exchange the voucher at the ticket sales desk.
You'll have to use public transport a lot to make that 300/290 HKD worthwhile. I find my usual usage to be around 150-250 HKD, depending on the transport option I used to/from the airport. If you want to be cheap, use the A-xx buses. HK island one-way starts from around $40HKD, which might even be close enough to your hotel that you won't need connecting transport. Out of my past 7 visits, I've only used the train 4 times (out of the total 14 one-way trips).
