I recently signed up for the AMEX Platinum card (under a month ago) - the sign-up bonus of 40,000 MR points was obviously a big attraction, and I managed to get cashback for £80 on TopCashback. Have any UK Amex Platinum users had any luck with getting this bonus added as an incentive to take out an additional Preferred Rewards Gold card?
If so, any tips on how to get this much appreciated!
In my opinion I don't think your chances are that great.
Any agents that you speak too will say no - and you haven't held the Platinum Card long enough to be able to expect any kind of exception or goodwill gesture (plus you have only just recieved 40k MR for the Plat Card).
Noone at Amex would agree that you qualify for another 20k MR points under these circumstances.
The application process and the checks that Amex systems do will identify and link together any existing accounts that you have in the MR system (in fact the application requires that you specify any existing accounts - but even if you don't, their systems are designed to find them from your personal details). As a result of this, your new Gold Card would be linked automatically to your existing Platinum Card MR account and you would therefore not reflect in the system as a "new" CM or qualify for the PRG bonus.
Sorry, I personally believe your chances to double-dip these bonuses are slim/none.
