I recently signed up for the AMEX Platinum card (under a month ago) - the sign-up bonus of 40,000 MR points was obviously a big attraction, and I managed to get cashback for £80 on TopCashback. In my new job I'll likely be travelling a lot so the insurance and lounge access are another plus. I have already hit the £1500 spend requirement for the bonus as had a number of big ticket purchases I needed to make.

However, the rewards earnings on spend beyond the bonus offering aren't great and so I was thinking of trying to open the Preferred Gold Rewards card as well due to the double rewards on spending for the first year. It is pretty explicit in the T&Cs that existing MR programme members are not eligible for the 20,000 MR points sign-up bonus with this card...but getting this as well would obviously make the fee in the first year much more palatable. Have any UK Amex Platinum users had any luck with getting this bonus added as an incentive to take out an additional Preferred Rewards Gold card?

If so, any tips on how to get this much appreciated!
