SWUs are easy use. Usually they can be applied at united.com, though sometimes "the bomb" won't let you and you need to use the 1K desk.

have UA SWUs always had fare restrictions? or is that new?
has that affected how easy they are to use? will it no longer be the case for those that say "I'ven't flown coach internationally in XX years"?
just wondering how much they will change from past experience.
