Actually, not true, at least at some airports. SFO is one, and I believe that LAX also offers "duty-free" to domestic shoppers. IIRC, the notice I saw said that domestic travelers only needed to pay sales tax. FWIW, I don't find duty free prices in the USA to be all that competitive with "street' pricing.

OP should ask United club about purchasing a bottle and let us know if successful. If that fails, look for a wine shop; I know Vino Volo is in several airports and SFO United mainline domestic gates (8x?) has a wine shop, albeit somewhat pricey.
