I will originate where I buy. I commute to NRT, and now SIN too. Just like I did when I started commuting to NRT I start with a one way and then the rest of my trips start in NRT.
NRT-LAX-NRT can be bought from a number of agencies in Japan for a hair over US$2,000.00, or with a few restrictions (90 day max return) US$1,600.00.
