Question Unnecessary irrops auto-rebooking when turning to same metal?

Has anyone ever been on a delayed flight -- in which the onward connection is secure due to it being on the same metal -- being unnecessarily auto-rebooked to a later flight? This post got me thinking about my own upcoming SFO-ICN-SFO. It's one thing if ICN-SFO is delayed. But what if SFO-ICN is delayed, the system lags in posting any delay for ICN-SFO, and I'm rebooked away from my original flight when the connection is still fine in reality. At best, it seems I would lose my seat assignment and have to take whatever seat (if any) an ICN agent is willing to give me when I attempt to stick with the original flight.

Anyone have experience with such a scenario?
