First Night: Inept Service and a Terrible Property
Here are some observations on our first day at Iguazu.
Airport
- Getting out from the plane to the taxi was a breeze. We didn't check in our luggage, so we just walked off the plane and to the taxi stand in the secured area.
- The taxi ride from the airport to the Sheraton Iguazu was about 20 minutes and cost 90 pesos. Not bad.
Brazil Side
- After we checked in we took the same taxi who to the Brazil side.
- Taxi ride on the Brazil side cost 400 pesos.
- The Brazil side was a lot of fun. Definitely bring a waterproof jacket and be prepared to get wet. We spent about 4 hours there, but the more adventurous type could have easily spent 8 hours there with all the fun activities.
Sheraton Iguazu Restaurant
- The service was average.
- We decided to go with the buffet because we had a pretty long day. (Definitely NOT worth it). The bill came to 400+ pesos for two and we didn't have any wine. The buffet food was not very good and the desserts were just way too sweet that it really was unbearable to eat.
Sheraton Iguazu Bar
- Overall, the service was average.
- We had a few drinks after dinner. We sat at the lounge for awhile before the two bartenders came up to us. They weren't busy and there was only 1 other table. Yet, we had to wait a good 15 minutes... It was fine since we didn't expect good service here.
Sheraton Hotel Room - SHOWER
- We got the "parking lot" view room which is also known as the "Jungle view" room.
- The rooms are terrible. Seriously, this wouldn't pass for a HoJos.
- NOW, here's the real kicker. NO HOT SHOWERS. Incredible! We got back after a long day of dirt and waterfall water in our faces. And we turn on the showers. NO HOT WATER coming through. Incredible! I called the front desk and they said "yes, there's some maintenance problem and it should be ready in a FEW HOURS". This is midnight!
- So, I'm dirty and smelly, but I'm just going to bed. (I pass on taking cold showers)
Sheraton Hotel Room - Electrical outlet
- Also, only one free electrical outlet in the room. it's like they don't want anyone to use their electricity.
- So, I'm going to have to alternate between charging the batteries on my digital SLR and my laptop.
SUMMARY
- Iguazu Falls is a lovely place and should be visited
- Sheraton Iguazu Falls is terrible hotel and I would never come back here again. I thought I didn't want to take the risk the non-branded hotel. Now, I know Sheraton Iguazu just leverages their brand and doesn't deliver. Shame on your Starwood!
PRICE
- Last but not least. For a tiny room with twin beds (about 300 soft), I am paying slightly more than the Park Hyatt Buenos Aires.
- Value for money, I feel very ripped off by Starwood.
