This sounds like you booked your TPAC trip and your DTW-LAX trip on different airlines. So from Delta's perspective, they aren't making you sit in an airport for two hours longer.
Perhaps if the entire routing was DL, and they stuck you with a 5 hour layover, you might get more love from a CSR.
