What is sad about all this is the way the retrenchments (read:layoffs) are being conducted. In the Western world, any airline company would layoff the people most recently recruited, ie with the least seniority. Layoffs are usually conducted 'back' so if you're a new hire, you would be the first to go.

What is BACKWARD is not laying off based on merit (or the lack thereof) Seniority as a determining factor is a sick joke of the western world.
