Bangkok flood has escalated into a crisis and the unfolding situation must be monitored minute by minute, Defence Minister Yuthasak Sasiprapha said on Tuesday.

"Yes, Bangkok is now in a crisis," he said.

The capital will tomorrow face a massive run-off from Ayutthaya, Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra said.

The tomorrow's water flow is estimated at 4,000 cubic meters per second and will arrive via Nonthaburi entering western Bangkok at three major canals, Thawee Wattana, Bangkok Noi and Bang Phlat, he said.

Residents living near the three canals should brace for overflowing water eventhough the city administration would intensify efforts for drainage, he said.

In northern Bangkok, the water level in Khlong Hok Wa contitues to rise, worsening the inundation at Sai Mai district.

For eastern Bangkok, some 88 areas are being submerged due to heavy rainfall and overflowing water. Nong Chok district is facing a worst inundation in comparison to other parts of the capital.

In western Bangkok, eight areas are inundated due to overflowing water from canals, namely, Mahasawat, Bangkok Noi, Phasi Charoen and Thawee Wattana.

As the water level of Chao Phraya River has reached a record hight, water has started to seep through embankment around King Monkut's Institute of Technology located near Phra Ram 7 Bridge.

City workers have been mobilised for flood control at key installations, particularly, the Grand Palace, Don Mueang Airport and two industrial estates, Lad Krabang and Bang Chan.
