They have let me do this on occasion, but as mentioned by ajnz they made clear this was an exception. What I have done before is book the cheapest flexi fare on a given day where there is a price differential and gone to the airport early and checked in for the flight i wanted. of course this only works if you dont have to be on the earlier flight and if its convenient to go to the airport (our office happens to be 3 minutes from CHC) so easy to pop out and back.
