Of course, either UV or boiling is only be good for clear water, you will need some kind of filter to get rid of the sediment and other nasties.
Mini PUR travel filter that you pump the water through and the travel steripen is what I use in extreme enviroment.
I have had this for 2 decades (gee, I'm old!) and it's still going strong. It's a small travel hotplate and teflon-coated aluminum pot with heat resistant plastic lid. The plug is standard American/Japanese 2 prong and there is a dual voltage switch on the bottom of the hotplate. I bring this instead of a travel kettle when I need to truly boil the water before consumption or when I might need to cook/reheat something.

That portable cooking system is so highly recommended on the travel/camping website that I found a local seller with one instock and it is on hold for me.
Ummm, hot rice and/or noodles, no more stale bread.
