When fare rules fail the airline??? (sorry, bit of a rant)

OK, I've screwed up. I admit it. But aren't BA missing a trick here too?

I spent £3.8k plus 125k miles to do an MFU to EWR next easter for 5 people. The idea was to tack on some 'cheap' flights to Florida and back but because it's holiday time in New Jersey too, Y fares are running at $300+ each way so we'll plump for F in the $500 region each way.

Now, BA barrel out with a 'new' fare to Florida with great availability over Easter.

So for £7.5k I could have booked flights all the way to Florida - had I waited.

As it stands now, I'm going to be pushing an additional £3.5k+ to some other airlines (and it won't be AA because their ex EWR times suck) to complete the journey, whereas if BA were to issue some kind of voucher in exchange for the tickets, they could right now be collecting an extra £3.7k from me.

Seems to me that BA and I lose out, whilst someone like DL stand to win here...
