Well i have done several trips US to India ranging from 22 to 36 hours total (without hotel stay...just waiting around in airports). I didnt think much of it, as 24 hours is pretty much required for US to India (if flying from Texas or west ooast).
Worst flights ever were (due to delays)
1. a simple BAH-CMB-MAA on Air LAnka (those days) became:
BAH - 30 hours in airport - DOH-COK-CJB-MAA (total 2 days).
I could not get out of BAH for 30 hours due to visa reasons.
about 40 pax (including me) were in this situation. Air Lanka folks were nowhere nearby. So, no one to re-route us! (I did not even know what re-route meant that time).
Thankfully, one pax helped me re-route on an IC flight to COK. This flight was interesting as they allowed smoking inside the plane!!
2. MCO-PIT-CDG-AUH-MCT-BAH-MAA (took about 40 hours or so)
Was supposed to fly the part: CDG-BAH-MAA on GF, but they kept delaying the flight, and suddenly landed in AUH (without announcing in-flight) and transferred all pax to another plane to MCT and then on to BAH!!
3. MAA-BAH-FRA-IAH (GF plus LH) became 2 days of hell:
MAA (Delayed 8 hours) - MCT-BAH (missed flight; stuck at airport 8 hours or so)-CDG-DFW-IAH (via AA)
For the MAA delay I could have gone home. But, the airline refused to let us exit the airport saying they could take off any minute. Of course in India you cannot exit security as you please.
In all the above 3 situations, I was much younger, status-free, flying cheap GF tickets.

Of course, my bags did not make it either!! (but they were found...in #3, my bags got to me after 10 days!).
You will probably believe it when i say "I wont ever fly GF again"
