Perfectly safe, thousands of bottles fly every day and 99.999% of the time there is no mishap. I've even had a suitcase run over (tire mark on it when I got it back) and the wine bottle inside did not break! Lots of other things commonly carried in baggage are more likely to leak than champagne (e.g. pens, shampoo, even toothpaste).
