Seat Given away/Changed - How? Why?

I will just copy and paste the email I sent to 1k voice:

"I am very unhappy with an incident that happened this week. I was on a paid first class ticket from Columbus OH to Denver CO ($980 A class) on Wednesday night that connected through Washington Dulles. United 3349 connecting to united 0533. The flight from Columbus to Washington was late. However I was able to sprint to the gate in time for the flight. Boarding was finished, however the main cabin door was NOT yet closed. Instead I was told "Im sorry but your seat is already gone" and one minute later the door was closed. I am a 1k member on a paid first class ticket (who flies 90% of the time on paid first class tickets), how can my "seat be gone" if the main cabin door is still open? The gate agent would not even hear me out and just kept repeating over and over "GO TO 15 SIR. GO TO 15 SIR." (15 being United CS).

The obviously overwhelmed agents were then not helpful me find a way to get there via an alternate route overnight; I was willing to do whatever it took to get to my 8 AM meetings. This cost me significant business since I had to wait until the next day to fly to Denver. "

Has anyone else ever seen this before? I am still seething a bit from it. I should add it was roughly ~10-15 minutes before scheduled flight time.
