London Midland trains are running their Great Escape scheme again between 22nd Oct and 6th November. It's a £10 go anywhere on their network ticket. London terminus is Euston and you can get to Northampton, Birmingham, Stratford-upon-Avon, Crewe, Worcester and even Liverpool if you've got time (note you cannot use Virgin trains which tend to be the quicker ones). I suggest you also check the website for engineering work if travelling at the weekend.
