Uli, I think that if upon check-in there are remaining F seats available, I dont see why SQ would not accomodate you in first class. Im currently on a DL award ticket on SQ in F, and at every checkin desk Ive asked about how full F was and was given this information with no problems... with the fare basis on your ticket, I think you have a good chance to get the seat if they have not sold it.

The point here is that you are not requesting an upgrade, you are requesting to be seated in your ticketed cabin, and the fact that you currently have a seat assigned that represents a 'downgrade' is only because of a temporary capacity/inventory condition. I havent read the fine print, and Im sure SQ's butt is covered, but still, with some smiling and some luck, you should find a sensible person at the checkin counter that will help you out.

For the record, on my EWR-AMS leg the F cabin was completely full, but on FRA-SIN there were 3 empty suites, 1 was later occupies by a co-pilot.
