You must not have read far enough in the thread because it does discuss flight refunds. There is an additional link in the thread to the procedures for securing a refund.

There is a Trip in Vain policy and I've invoked it. Because I never left my origination point, I obtained a full refund (my connecting flight was cancelled due to weather while I was still waiting to take off from my origination point).

The thing is that you have to deal with the Refund Department and no one else.
