Depends on what you think about having to buy a brand new ticket if you miss your VS flight

Personally I'd be crapping myself if I had separate tickets and only 2h45m between flights - remember you will lose an hour for VS checkin and it could be anything between 30 & 60 minutes before your luggage shows up on the luggage conveyor. And that's before you consider delays...
