That said, I'd escalate and be relentless about it, as even twice-weekly use would be well within "reasonable use" in most people's book. If they want to phase out a lifetime membership, this isn't the way to do it. From the description you gave, you didn't do anything unreasonable and gave no grounds for revocation. I'd request an explanation and a prorated refund of the purchase price, in email, so there is a paper trail. If you have status, send it to your preferred desk and let them route it to the club people; things just seem to roll a bit more smoothly when you go through the preferred desk. Give them an alternative offer, too: ask for a prorated refund OR a 5-year membership (or whatever number of years you think would be reasonable).
FWIW US' IT department is pretty lame so I'd try not to let the offer of a club membership purchase add insult to injury; sad fact is that their programming probably just isn't smart enough to realize they're offering something for sale that you'd just had revoked.
Thanks for the advice. I plan on being relentless, but I want to have a strategy mapped out before. The last thing I want is to lose the high ground here. Another thing that had me enraged is that they were asking for all kinds of payment details from 80's. Why would I remember how much I paid for the membership? I can't remember a lot from the early 80's.
Honestly, look at the rules for the club. They have the right to change rules without ever telling members. They have the right to give you no notice that they are going to revoke your membership, and they owe you no explanation if they do revoke it.
