i was able to do an advance check-in via phone without a Krisflyer/PPS number....was crediting the miles to my UA MP account. don't know if it was a *Gold thing or not.
sean, did you request an exit row? if available, they'll 'guarantee' the exit row assignment, but you won't know which one until check-in. at least that's what my experience was....
