UPDATE FROM THE TD FRONT LINES:
Just got off the phone with TD (10/19) and they seem to know a little more on the slaughter of the AA cards...
As of Monday October 24th, all AA accounts are converted over to the First Class TD Visa card (didn't know if it was Infinite or Plat [I asked]).
All purchases made on and after the 24th, even with our "old" AA Cards will accumulate TD Points and not AAdvantage miles. One thing that would have been nice to know from TD sooner.
New accounts are going to be created on the 24th, and those account numbers will show up in Online Banking around the 25th-26th. We should receive the new cards around the 1st of November.
Our current AA cards are still valid until the 15th of November, or until the new First Class cards are activated (prior to the 15th).
So for some good news, I was told by the CSR, that in addition to waiving the first year (whoopie!

), they're giving us 50,000 Points. I thought they were giving us only 20,000 points-- that's what they offer to
new applicants. I had asked him "did you say 20,000 or 50,000?" and he said "50,000. Five-zero." So based on
this that's 12,500 AAdvantage miles-- not the best conversion, but hey I'll take them! (That's even more than the bonus we received when we applied for our
TD AAdvantage Cards.)
So on that note, he said the 50,000 bonus points should be available or shortly thereafter as soon as the new accounts are created (10/24). He said we can log log into the
TD Travel Rewards site after we have our new account numbers (won't work with our current card numbers) to redeem our points. He wasn't sure if we could convert them to AAdvantage (but on the website it says we can), so I'll be doing that as soon as I can. Trying to get them to count towards MM.
Thought I'd be riding this out until the bitter end (Nov 15th), but the TD Visa will be introduced to my shredder this Monday (along with the new First Class Visa when it arrives) or even sooner depending on when the new Avion Infinite Visa or SPG Amex arrive-- hopefully any day now.
Looking at the
expiration on my well used AAdvantage Visa, it's almost ironic-- as if TD knew something I didn't 3 years ago. Anyone else's cards expire 11/11? Wouldn't that be strange?
