Sheshan (Shanghai) is a nice hotel, but if you're in Shanghai, stay downtown and enjoy the nightlife. Same with Beijing. I recommend the Le Meridian for Shanghai and Westin (Chaoyang) for Beijing.

Beach resorts in China are a waste of time. Only go if you can't get out of the country.
