I was wondering if it's okay to ask for one of those red "priority tags" they normally use at check-in so I can use it on my carry-on bag? More often than not, my bag usually comes out among the last ones and it's sometimes nail biting if your next flight is already boarding and you're still waiting for your gate-checked bag.
You'll be more likley to get your bag first if you wait and drop off your bag off LAST (or towards the end of boarding). I find that they
usually load the gate check bags into the cargo hold for express flights in the order they were dropped off (and reverse that process at the destination). That usually means that the last people to board (or close to it) get their bags on the jetway first.
